Looking for a fun way to keep your child active and engaged this summer? Summer Playcation at Major R. Owen's Health & Wellness Community Center offers the perfect solution!

Operated by the Asphalt Green Summer Day Camp team, Summer Playcation gives kids the chance to participate in a variety of recreational activities that inspire movement, creativity, and connection with their peers. Each day is designed to provide children with all-important physical activity and social development — all in a fun, supportive environment.

2025 Reduced Rates for Summer Playcation

A limited number of reduced-rate awards are available for qualifying families. Applicants will be required to provide proof of household income. Applications will be available soon.

What is Summer Playcation?

Summer Playcation is a simplified version of our traditional summer day camp experience.

Are lunch or snacks provided?

Please be aware that campers must bring their own nut-free lunch and snacks each day to camp.

When does registration for Summer 2025 begin?

Registration will open shortly! Sign our interest form to receive the link instantly. The application will also be posted on asphaltgreen.org.

What are the hours of camp?

Camp hours are 8:45am to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday.

Does Asphalt Green offer pre- and after-camp services?

Yes, we offer pre-camp service starting at 7:45am and after-camp service until 5pm each day.

What is our campus like?

With New York City's largest indoor turf field, 3 regulation-sized basketball courts, and air conditioning, the Major R. Owens Center has emerged as a state-of-the-art multi-sport facility.

Summer Play Days are perfect for families looking for flexible summer programming — whether your child wants to try new activities, stay active between other summer plans, or just have fun with friends in a safe, welcoming environment.

Is financial aid available for Summer Playcation?

Yes, financial aid is available for our program each year. Information will be released soon. 

Is bus service available?

We do not offer transportation. Our campus is easily accessible via mass transportation:

Subway: 

2, 3, 4, or 5 trains to Franklin Avenue-Medgar Evers College station
– The center is a 5-minute walk from the station.

S (Shuttle) train to Botanic Garden station
– Walk 7 minutes along Washington Avenue to reach Bedford Avenue.

  • B49 stops directly on Bedford Avenue near the entrance.

  • B48 stops at Eastern Parkway and Rogers Avenue — just a short walk away.

  • B41, B45, and B44 SBS also serve the area with stops within walking distance.

 

Can I request that my child be in the same group as his/her friend?

We do our best to honor at least one campmate request per camper if they are in the appropriate age group and each camper has requested the other.

What is a typical day like?

Campers follow a set schedule of activities throughout the day. Activities include but are not limited to:

  • Swim (in partnership with Imagine Swimming)
  • Basketball
  • Soccer
  • Flag Football
  • Volleyball
  • Kickball
  • Table Tennis
  • Capture the Flag
  • Ultimate Frisbee
  • Arts & Crafts
